how to i get my lock ring to stay tight on my fixed gear?
i have a fixed gear that i just use for commuting to and from school and i have been having a lot of trouble with the lock ring. when ever i get it good and tight, about two weeks later, i will try stopping really hard by either skidding or just putting lots of back pressure on the pedals and my cog will slip. i have had bike shops tighten it up and have also done it myself and i want it to stop doing this cause it just gets old. any suggestions would be really helpful thanks!
The problem you are having is that either your cog is too narrow or your lock ring doesn't have a shoulder or both. For the time being use some thread locker on the threads of the cog and lockring. In the future go for a wider cog that will extend past the right hand threads and will butt up against the lockring better (surly and eai cogs are both pretty wide) a better lockring will do wonders as well (grunge and surly lockrings are pretty gnarly)

Why Buy A Fixed Gear 700C Bicycle?
A bicycle is a very personal choice. The style, color, and design are aesthetically indicative of the rider's tastes and style. The bike needs to be the right size to be comfortable and safe for the rider who is purchasing it. Once these considerations are taken into account, there are still a multitude bikes from which to choose. To make an appropriate choice, a rider needs to determine why he/she is buying a bicycle. Is the bike for the purpose of long, cross country bicycle trips, or will the rider be in the mountains, fording streams and jumping ditches? Different bikes are ideal for different situations.
Assess Your Goals
If you are taking your bicycle on a cross country trip, you will want a bike with multiple gears to be able to maneuver various road and weather conditions, which cannot necessarily be predicted from the beginning of the trip.
Mountain biking will require a heavy, durable frame and wide tires, and possibly a variety of gears, to face all of the challenges that will arise in the woods or in the mountains.
If you are seeking a bicycle simply for your commutes to work or school, and riding on errands around your home, and the terrain is relatively even and predictable, the a fixed gear 700C bicycle could be the ideal choice, with its simple construction, durable frame, and stylish design.
Features
A fixed gear 700C bike has only one gear. There are no variable speeds, and the bike does not coast. If the pedals stop turning, the wheels also stop turning. Road racers often train on fixed gear bicycles because it is believed that pedaling one will improve pedaling techniques.
Fixed gear 700C bicycles are constructed of aluminum and steel alloys, making them extremely lightweight, ideal for maneuvering around potholes and typical urban challenges. It also makes the bicycle ideal for work commutes, especially if you need to carry the bike into your office, or up or down steps.
Steel alloy is a strong, durable material, that requires little maintenance, and offers reliability and longevity. The materials are resistant to the elements and therefore require less repair in the long run. If the bike does need repair, and you prefer to complete your own maintenance, the lightweight quality of the bike makes repairs easy. The parts used to build fixed gear 700C bikes are manufactured by reputed manufacturers, such as Shimano and Artek, so quality parts are easily available for replacement if necessary.
Purchasing a Fixed Gear 700C Bicycle
