What does the black bar on the end of a jiu-jitsu belt for?
I notice some of the belts have it and others don't. My school is MMA based and I do no-gi jiu-jitsu, I am looking at possibly trying to do some gi stuff and was just curious.
In brazilian jujitsu they are marks till your next belt. In bjj there are only 5 belts (white, blue, purple, brown, black) yet it takes 10+ years to properly achieve a black belt. So before you can get your blue belt you still need to get 4 stripes on your white belt. It's pretty funny because in most instances I would favor a 1-4 stripe whitebelt in bjj (given they were of the same size and fitness level) against a TKD blackbelt.

When to add a Push Bar to your Off Road Rig
With all of the great front end protection gear on the market today, it does get confusing at times trying to figure out the best and the right thing to buy! I have to believe that the majority of the people buying front end stuff are "Off Road Warriors", spending time on weekends and holidays traveling the back roads. Over the river and through the woods, as Granny used to say. For those of you, the choice matters.
If you are just dressing up your 4x4, Jeep, Truck, or station wagon, then it probably doesn't make much difference. Looks and price would be the biggest keys. And with such great manufacturers like Westin, Romik, Bestop, Go Rhino, Cobra, Dee Zee, CSI, and many others, bringing us more and more top quality great looking grille pieces, finding one just right for you is easy! A nice grille guard would probably do the trick!
If you're off-roading, you're worrying about the rough terrain beating up your rig - dinging, denting, scratching, gouging, paint-peeling, light breaking stuff! So front end protection really means just that for you! Protecting the front of the vehicle.
The Grille Guard basically protects the grille area of the vehicle. Some extend to the front of the hood as well. These can also be called GRILL guards, depending on the spelling in your neck of the woods!! They are fairly easy to install, and keep the sticks and branches and junk from banging up the front.
A Brush Guard will often protect the headlights as well. And if you're going to be hill climbing after sun down, you will want those protected! Additional light kits and light bars are added in here to help you see the road and surroundings better at night. Or just in the dark of the forest!
The Bull Bar tends to be narrower and lower, keeping the bad stuff off the grille area and extending down under. This helps with stumps and big rocks or boulders, dead animals, or thick brush. Again, many of these can have extra lights implanted in them.
The Bush Bar is the more confusing animal of the species, as it can really serve two functions for you. One, it can help protect the front end of your 4x4 from all the bad things out there, and Two, it can be used to actually PUSH things. It is the strongest and sturdiest and can handle more stuff. You would want one of these if you were going to be into moving stumps, boulders, dead animals, your friend Bubba or his rig, or whatever out of the way. It gives you the muscle to move it, and protects the front of the rig at the same time. ( I think I heard Tim Allen just then.... )
There is no end to the style and detail you can install up front, so take some time and look through the various aftermarket grille and front end protection websites. It will help you get a solid feel for what all there is, and prices for them. I always think looking around the parking lot, the road, the car shows, or even downtown smaller town USA is a great way to see what looks good on other rigs, and especially one like yours. Some pieces look great in the catalog or webstore pic on another vehicle, but may not be that great on what you're driving. So check it out.
So before you push your belly up to the bar, take a look at the push bars out there for your weekend ride! And get it set up right! As Roy Rogers used to say, "Happy trails!"
