New chain, new problem?
I replaced my old chain with a new one and now I have a skipping problem. XT chainrings, Ultegra cassette (year's worth of use), the old chain was Duraace and the replacement is an SRAM PC991. I had a similar problem long ago and the LBS told me the chain wears in the most used cogs and so a new chain will skip. My current problem is with just the 5th cog (most used), and under max load only. The cassette teeth look great, the derailleur is always in tune, I'm a learning mechanic
Please don't tell me I need a Shimano chain and please show me a better solution than to replace the cassette!
My bet is that if you actually measure the teeth they will show wear. Looks isn't always a good measure of determining wear.
You might be able to replace that single cog, but if you don't do something your chain will wear faster.
